What to bring
A swimsuit, and flip-flops if you like. Check what your ticket includes: towels and robes come with some and can be rented otherwise. In winter bring a hat and gloves for the walk between the car park or bus and the changing rooms.
The shower rule
Every pool and lagoon in Iceland asks you to shower without your swimsuit, with soap, before you get in. It's how the pools stay clean with little chlorine, and staff will remind you.
Your hair and the silica
The lagoon's silica and minerals leave hair stiff and dry for a day or two. Rub in plenty of the conditioner from the showers before you go in, keep your hair out of the water if you can, and condition again afterwards. Take off silver jewellery, which the minerals can tarnish.
Before you go
The Blue Lagoon sits beside the Reykjanes volcanic fissures and has closed for a time during recent eruptions nearby. Check bluelagoon.com on the day. Sky Lagoon near Reykjavík and the Forest Lagoon near Akureyri follow the same rules.
